Chicken of the Future...

Parisi, Mark. "Cartoon." Off the Mark 28 Mar 2009 .

In this cartoon by famed cartoonist Mark Parisi, it pokes fun at the idea that everything tastes like chicken. Of course, everything does not taste like chicken, but it’s the common saying. So by having cavemen say that the “ancestor” tastes like what would be “chicken” just took such a simple common saying and made it laughable. It is not known where this was printed other than on his website, but it is something for all audiences that knows the chicken tasting joke (which is most people).

Jerry talks Food - Anyone need Milk?

Jerry Seinfeld. I'm Telling You For the Last Time. Dir. Marty Callner. Broadway. HBO Home Video, 1998. Video. "Jerry Seinfeld Stand-up in New York Vol. 2 & Vol. 3" YouTube. 9.02.2007. 3.28.09.

Famous comedian Jerry Seinfeld even takes a stab at food. In his Broadway performance in 1998, Seinfeld does a stand-up with a variety of common everyday material including how grocery shopping has become more of a scavenger hunt than a common weekly chore. The changing of products and the need for milk has taken over human life as told by Jerry. The humor in this is taking something as simple as melons and exaggerating the obvious with the absurd. His stand-up is suitable and understandable to all audiences since all humans have to eat and experience the same thoughts and wonders as they travel down the grocery aisle.

Super Size Me Please !

Supersize Me. Dir. Morgan Spurlock. Perf. Morgan Spurlock, Daryl Isaacs, Lisa Ganjhu, and Stephen Siegal. Kathbur Pictures, 2004.

This Oscar nominated film took the world by storm in its 2004 release and put a dark shadow over the fast food industry. SuperSize Me follows around main character and director Morgan Spurlock as he eats nothing but McDonalds for 30 days. The goal of this movie was to show the negative effects of eating that much fast food has on the body in such a short amount of time. The film was made as a documentary and drew both laughter and criticism by all that watched it. The humor of it was that it took a topic (fast food) that is highly popular in the United States and around the world and through the use of demonstration, called for change. It was to encourage people to take notice in the food that they eat and even though it is fast and delicious, it has consequences that go unnoticed. Those who stray away from fast food found it as an amusing entertainment against people who they see around them doing it in their daily lives. Those who found commonality in it found it repulsive and took note to change it in their own life.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle

In this film, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, John Cho(Harold) and Kal Penn(Kumar) show their journey to the famous fast food restaurant, White Castle. This film not only shows the hilarious trip, but also, the happiness after breaking the harsh obstacles. The two stoners Harold and Kumar see a White Castle commercial on television and start the long trip to the White Castle. It is almost impossible for them to reach White Castle as if they are magnetically separated. However they go through awesome experience including nudity, drug use, and life threatening obstacles. This film allows the viewers to laugh not only because of the amusing journey they go through, but because the theme “destiny” keeps the story connected and meaningful. This film is unrated, but highly not recommended for children too young; otherwise, it is a perfect film for a laughing break for all ages.
